Where to register
If you want to register for VAT, you must either contact the local customs and tax office at which your local representative in Denmark is registered or contact the Customs and Tax Office in Sønderborg directly.

If your enterprise is established outside the EU, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland or Norway, you must be registered through a local representative in Denmark or set up your own registered office here.

Which form to use
If you are to register directly with the Customs and Tax Office in Sønderborg, you can contact the office to obtain a special registration form. You must complete the form and return it to the Customs and Tax Office no later than eight days before trading begins in Denmark.

You can also print the registration form which is enclosed with the Guide as an appendix.

If you wish to be registered at your registered office in Denmark or through a local representative, the general rules on registration apply. You can download an application for registration from 49.005 or by contacting your local customs and tax office. Please refer to the list of addresses appended to this Guide.

Please note that in both cases registration may be conditional upon the provision of security.

Approximately two weeks after having submitted the registration form, you will receive a registration certificate from the Central Customs and Tax Administration. The registration certificate shows the object of your registration and which SE number (VAT number) your enterprise has been given.

The SE number is an eight-digit number to be used in all communication with the local customs and tax office. The name, address and telephone number of your local customs and tax office is stated at the top of the registration certificate.

You can obtain a number of other guides on VAT and on the rules governing imports and exports, excise duty, etc. from your local customs and tax office.

If you wish to employ staff for your enterprise, the customs and tax office can also provide you with guides on how to deduct tax from your staff's wages and salaries.

Changes to your registration information
If there are any changes to the information given to the Central Customs and Tax Administration at the time of registration, you must notify the local customs and tax office.
