Applicants with Danish residency
As a general principle, people who are registered residents of Denmark, are not permitted to drive a foreign registered vehicle in Denmark.

A permit may be given to people, who reside in Denmark, but work outside Denmark during the week. The permit is valid only for transportation between the Danish border and the Danish residence. The vehicle may also be used for transportation between the residence and the border for weekend-trips and vacations. The vehicle may not be used for any other type of transportation in Denmark.

A foreign national, who enters Denmark for the purpose of taking up permanent residency in Denmark, may drive a foreign registered vehicle in Denmark for a period of no more than 14 days after entering the country. After this period, the vehicle must either be registered on Danish license plates, driven out of Denmark or be deregistered.

Applicants with foreign residence
A person who enters Denmark for a limited period of time, up to a year, may apply for permission to drive a foreign registered vehicle during his/her stay in Denmark.

If the residency period exceeds 1 year, or 365 days within a period of 2 years, the vehicle must either be registered on Danish license plates or driven out of Denmark.
